Spoken September 26
Lecture
Prabhupāda: Ladies and gentlemen, our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is just the appropriate movement for self-realization in this age. Self… When we speak of self, there are two kinds of self according to Vedic literatures. The exact word in Sanskrit, the self-ātmā. And there is another word—Paramātmā. Ātmā and Paramātmā. There is some other words also—mahātmā, durātmā. Mahātmā means one who has expanded his soul up to the Supersoul, Paramātmā. He’s called mahātmā. Another word is durātmā, when one is far, far away from the Supersoul. Dur, dur means distant. Bahut dur. Bahut dur pare hai [?], they say. In Hindi also, they say dur. Dur means distant. So Paramātmā and ātmā, or God and Godhead, the Supreme Godhead or Supreme God. So we cannot place everyone on the same level. That is nonsense. As in this world we see that you are richer than me, and somebody is richer than you, and somebody is richer than somebody else… You go on finding out who is the richest, then you’ll come to God. You cannot find anyone in this material world as the richest of all. No. Somebody will come who is richer than him, and somebody will come out who is, I mean to say, poorer than him. Any position you stand, you’ll find somebody greater and somebody lesser. Even in the lowest stage of life also, you’ll find somebody is lesser. In any capacity, either in richness or in knowledge or in beauty or in strength—in so many things we have got. So everyone cannot ...
Anādi karama-phale and Purport
Anādi karama-phale. Anādi karama-phale pori’ bhavārṇava-jale taribāre nā dekhi upāya. This is a song sung by Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, depicting the picture of the conditioned soul. It is said here, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura is speaking, taking himself as one of the ordinary human being, that due to my past fruitive activities, I have now fallen in this ocean of nescience, and I do not find any means of coming out of this great ocean. It is just like the ocean of poison, e viṣaya-halāhale, divā-niśi hiyā jvale. As, if anyone takes some pungent food, it burns the heart, similarly, as we are trying to be happy by sense enjoyment, actually, it is just becoming the opposite, a cause of burning our heart. E viṣaya-halāhale, divā-niśi hiyā jvale, that burning sensation is going on twenty-four hours, day and night. Mana kabhu sukha nāhi pāya, and on account of this my mind is not at all in satisfaction. Āśā-pāśa-śata-śata kleśa dey abirata, I am always making plan, hundreds and thousands, how I shall become happy, but actually all of them giving me trouble, pains, twenty-four hours. Pravṛtti-ūrmira tāhe khelā, it is exactly like the waves of the ocean, always dashing one another that is my position. Kāma-krodha-ādi caya, bāṭapāre dey bhaya, besides that, there are so many thieves and rogues. Especially they are six in number, namely lust, anger, envy, illusion, and so many ways, they are always present, and I am afraid of them. Abasāna hoilo ...

Prabhupāda: Where is my overcoat? I thought you were bringing it. [indistinct] Devotee: [indistinct] Prabhupāda: …takes care of the cow and gets the milk so out of the milk he makes ghee, so the richer section will pay this ghee, he gets some money and from the cow dung he gets fuel. Devotee: Fuel. Prabhupāda: And while churning the ghee the buttermilk is used by him with capātī it is very nice. Devotee: Do you only eat capātīs? Prabhupāda: Oh yes we don’t require anybody’s bread simply we prepare capātīs and with the buttermilk with a little salt and chilli, oh it is very nice. So he has no problems. Devotee: Just from one cow? Prabhupāda: Yes simply by keeping one cow his livelihood is [indistinct]. [break]
SB 1.3.21
Prabhupāda: So this Parāśara actually was not husband of Satyavatī. When Satyavatī was not married, Parāśara [Satyavatī] gave birth to Vyāsadeva. Later on Satyavatī became the wife of Mahārāja Śantanu, father of Bhīṣmadeva. This Satyavatī was the daughter of a fisherman. She was neither born of a brāhmaṇa father or kṣatriya father. So formerly, a higher-caste man could accept a girl born of lower caste, but a lower-caste man could not accept a girl born of higher caste. That was the system. Because in the śāstra it is… Ordinary, I mean to say, instructive śāstra. Just like Cāṇakya, in his moral lessons he says that viṣād apy amṛtaṁ grāhyam. When there is a tub of poison, but if there is little nectar, then you take it. Don’t think that “It is in the poison pot; why shall I take it?” No, you can take it. Viṣād apy amṛtaṁ grāhyam amedhyād api kāñcanam [Nīti-darpaṇa 1.16]. Suppose in a very filthy place where people pass stool, urine, there is some gold. So you should take it. Don’t think that because the gold is in the polluted place, gold has become polluted. No. You take it. Viṣād apy amṛtaṁ grāhyam amedhyād api kāñcanam, nīcād apy uttamā vidyā. Vidyā, education, was to be received from a brāhmaṇa, because it was the brāhmaṇa’s business to become highly learned scholar and make others educated. Teacher’s business was entrusted to the brāhmaṇas, administration to the kṣatriyas, production ...
Talk
Prabhupāda: The love of God… Love is… [break] is manifested in so many ways but because it is misplaced not properly just like foodstuffs somebody has stolen it that you take this foodstuff within your body but if I do not know that I am placing here there here there [indistinct] that is the proper [break] place. Similarly my propensity of my loving others is there—others means, beyond my somebody else. That somebody else I do not know who is, therefore I am [indistinct]. [end]
Bg 13.3 Lecture
Last night we have already explained that the Supersoul, or Kṛṣṇa, is the knower of the pains and pleasure of every body, whereas the individual soul is the knower of pains and pleasure of his own body. In another place Kṛṣṇa says, avināśī tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṁ tatam. The consciousness of the individual soul is spread all over the body. That is avināśī, indestructible. That is avināśī. Kṛṣṇa says, avināśī tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṁ tatam. Yena, by the soul, he is, by his potency, spread all over the body. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa being the Supersoul, He is not only spread…, His consciousness is not only spread over this my individual body, but His consciousness is spread in…, of all bodies. All over the universe there are 8,400,000 species of forms, and Kṛṣṇa’s consciousness is all-pervading. He knows everything. So as soon as our consciousness becomes Kṛṣṇa conscious… Kṛṣṇa understands. Kṛṣṇa is within your heart. Īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe ‘rjuna tiṣṭhati. So Kṛṣṇa can understand your purpose. We cannot cheat Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa can immediately understand how much serious and sincere you are for understanding Kṛṣṇa or approaching Him or going back to home, back to Godhead. That Kṛṣṇa can understand. As soon as He understands that “Here is a soul, he’s very serious,” He takes care of you, especially. Samo ‘haṁ sarva-bhūteṣu. Kṛṣṇa, being ...
SB 1.2.18
Naiṣṭhikī. Niṣṭhā. From niṣṭhā… Niṣṭhā means “firmly fixed up.” Firmly fixed up. Ādau śraddhā tato sādhu-saṅgo tato bhajana-kriyā atha anartha-nivṛttiḥ syāt tato niṣṭhā. Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has explained how one can be fixed up, niṣṭhā. This niṣṭhā stage comes when one is freed from anartha. Ādau śraddhā. Just like you all have come here out of śraddhā, some faith, that “Let us go to the Hare Kṛṣṇa temple, see the ārati or hear from the svāmīs.” This is the beginning, śraddhā. To create śraddhā, little faith, these centers are established. And one takes to faith, then he gradually advances. Ādau śraddhā. And that śraddhā has been explained by Kavirāja Gosvāmī, what is śraddhā. That śraddhā, he has said, śraddhā-śabde viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya. Śraddhā means firm faith, viśvāsa; sudṛḍha niścaya, unflinching. What is that sudṛḍha niścaya? Kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya. This is the beginning of śraddhā. Śraddhā means… As in the Bhagavad-gītā it is said, sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja. If one is agreeable to this condition, that kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile; if one agrees, “Yes, if I surrender to Kṛṣṇa, my all perfection of life is achieved,” this is śraddhā. Not that “Kṛṣṇa is also good, and this demigod is also good. You are also good, I am also good. You are also God, I am also God.” There ...

The Absolute Truth is manifested in three ways: impersonal Brahman and all-pervading Paramātmā and Personality of Godhead—brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti śabdyate—but they are one and the same. This is the verdict of the śāstra. So we can understand from this example that the sun is localized. Everyone can see. At the same time, sunshine is all-pervading, and within the sun globe there is a predominating deity. He is a person. Similarly, originally God is person, and then, when He expands, all-pervasive, that is Paramātmā. And when He expands by His energy, that is Brahman. This is understanding. Brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti. Now somebody, they finish their business by realizing the impersonal Brahman, and somebody finishes his business by realizing the localized Paramātmā, yogīs. Jñānīs, yogīs. And the bhaktas, they come to the real, original source of everything: Kṛṣṇa. That is the difference.
Room Conversation
Prabhupāda: I was living with servant and two sons. So I helped to start… [break] …took from my friends, I collected some money and… So other important members said, “Why Abhaya Bābu is living separately? He should be the president of the Bombay.” I never said, but they said. I was living separately. Then Prabhupāda requested, I mean to say, pleaded in my behalf so many things. He said three words, “It is better that he is living outside your company. He will do. When time will come, he’ll do himself everything. You haven’t got to recommend him.” These very words. [break] …Kṛṣṇa require any president or any GBC. He’s giving chance to everyone, that’s all. Otherwise thousands of presidents and thousands of GBC may come and go, His work will go on. Kṛṣṇa is complete Himself. He doesn’t require anyone’s help. That is Kṛṣṇa. [break] …sei hetu pracāra. One who has got life, he can preach. One is dead, what he can do? He used to say.
SB 1.7.30-31
So the heat increased. Radiation heat increased. One weapon was released by Aśvatthāmā, another by Arjuna to counteract, and the heat was so terrible that dahyamānāḥ prajāḥ sarvāḥ: all the inhabitants of different planets, they felt the great heat produced by two brahmāstras. And sāṁvartakam amaṁsata. The sāṁvartaka fire is explained in the śāstra, that in the Kali-yuga… At the last there will be Kali-yuga. In the Kali-yuga there will be no rainfall, so everything will dry. Not this Kali-yuga, but at the end of the universal life there will be great fire all over the universe. That is called sāṁvartaka. And everything will be ablaze. This fire will take place on account of the heat increased of the sun. It is said that the present temperature of the sun will be increased twelve times. So naturally there will be fire. As we know, sometimes there is forest fire. Similarly, the fire will take place, and everything will be burned into ashes. Then there will be rain. After heat… You have got experience when the atmosphere is too hot, then the rain falls. Same process. When everything will be burned into ashes there will be rain, torrents of rain, and it is said just like the trunk of the elephant, the rainfall will be like that. So everything will be covered with water. That is annihilation. Pralaya-payodhi-jale dhṛtavān asi vedam. Then there will be pralaya, and by the grace of the Lord the Vedas will be saved. Keśava dhṛta-mīna-śarīra jaya ...
