Bg 4.9 Lecture
Kṛṣṇa is explaining how one can very easily enter into the spiritual world, or the kingdom of God. The simple formula is that anyone who understands the appearance, disappearance, activities of the Lord as divyam, transcendental, with perfect knowledge of the Absolute Truth… Simply by this understanding one can immediately enter into the spiritual kingdom.
To know the Absolute Truth is not possible by our present senses. That is also another fact. Because at the present moment we have got materially affected… Not material senses. Our sense are originally spiritual, but it is covered by material contamination. Therefore the process is to purify, to purify the coverings of our material existence. And that is also recommended—simply by service attitude. Sevonmukhe hi jihvādau svayam eva sphuraty adaḥ. The whole thing depends on our surrendering process and engage ourselves in the service of the Lord. Then gradually, the Lord reveals to the devotee. That is the process.
SB 1.5.15
Dharma, religious faith—everything is very punctual. One is going punctually to the church or to the temple and executing all ritualistic ceremonies very rigidly, following the rules and regulations. But at the end if he has not developed love for God, then, Bhāgavata says, śrama eva hi kevalam: “This is simply laboring, formalities.” Caste priest, caste gosvāmī, caste spiritual master—simply a formality. But the objective is not Kṛṣṇa. Objective is material happiness. That sort of religiosity or following the regulative principle will not help.
SB 2.3.22
Prabhupāda: Hm. So, the peacock plumes, they look like eyes, painted. But it has no power to see. Similarly, if we do not see the forms of the Lord, just like in this temple we are seeing, then these eyes are to be considered as painted eyes, not real eyes. Simply just appearing like eyes; it has no use. The human form of life, the eyes are there, particular eyes, to see the forms of the Lord, eye to eye. And because our present position is that with these material eyes we cannot see the Lord in His spiritual form, therefore the Lord has kindly appeared before us in a manner in which we can see Him.
SB 1.10.4
Prabhupāda: So due to good king, in… There is a maxim in Bengali: rājera doṣe rāja naṣṭa, rājya naṣṭa, gṛhiṇī doṣe gṛhastha bhraṣṭa[?]. This is very important instruction. If the king of the state is an impious man, sinful man, that kingdom will never be happy. Bhraṣṭa. Everything is spoiled. As much as in a family, if the housewife is not good—contaminated—then there is no good life in the family. In Western countries especially, and in this country also nowadays, there is no peace between husband and wife, and there is no, practically, no family life. In Western countries there is divorce. Here also the divorce law is introduced. And no family is happy. Gṛhiṇī doṣe gṛhastha naṣṭa. So king must be very pious.
Morning Walk
Prabhupāda: [laughing] How they have made easy life, just see. Then… There is a story that a boy went for examination. So when he came back, his father asked, “My dear boy, how you have written your question paper?” “Yes, very nice.” “How?” “No, those questions which were very difficult, I could not answer. And the easier question, what is to write? I know everything. [laughter] Easier questions, there is no need of writing. I know everything.” Both ways he has not written anything. [chuckles] So these rascals, both ways they will not follow anything. And still, they will credit… Not only Christians; everywhere these people want to banish God. Simply we are canvassing, “God, God, God.”
Room Conversation with Professor Durckheim, Dr. P. J. Saher and Professor Porsch
Prabhupāda: So Absolute Truth is realized in three aspect: brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti śabdyate. Some realize the Absolute Truth as impersonal Brahman, others realize the Absolute Truth as localized Paramātmā, situated in everyone’s heart, and the final realization is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So we are cultivating the Supreme Personality of Godhead Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam. So which aspect you are cultivating: the Paramātmā or the impersonal Brahman or the Personality of Godhead?
Morning Walk
Prabhupāda: Yes. [break] …khalu sarvataḥ syāt. Viṣaya means sense enjoyment. Now, that boy and the girl, they’re taking dogs. The dog is also male and female, and the man is male and female. So viṣaya means sense enjoyment. The sex enjoyment is both; the dogs and the man, they will have. But the man can get Kṛṣṇa; the dog cannot get Kṛṣṇa. That is the difference. Viṣaya, that sex enjoyment, is available both for the dogs and the man. But the man can achieve Kṛṣṇa; the dog cannot. That is special. Viṣaya khalu sarvataḥ syāt. [break] …of eating, sleeping, mating. That is available in every life. [break] …another passage is there in Prema-vivarta, janame janame sabe pitā mātā pāya: “In every life, one can get father and mother.” Kṛṣṇa guru nahi mile bhaja hari ei: “But Kṛṣṇan and guru cannot be had in every life.” That is only in human life. Otherwise, as soon as there is birth, there is father and mother. Either you become human being or tiger or snake or bird, the father-mother is there. But the spiritual father and Kṛṣṇa, that can be obtained in human life, not in every life.
Śubhavilāsa Home Engagement
Prabhupāda: So I have heard that there are about fifty thousand Indians in Toronto. So why they are not coming? They want to become bara-sāhīb only?
Śubhavilāsa: Yes, they are here to make the money, that’s all they are doing.
Prabhupāda: [laughs] They have no other purpose? So this is not good. What is their objection? They don’t want their own culture? This is Indian culture. They should be proud that Indian culture is being accepted by the foreigners. And they are living, they are becoming bara-sāhīb? What is this? Now it is your duty to deliver these bara-sāhībs, that they are not taking interest in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Hmm? So is there any other outsider Indian present?
Morning Walk
Prabhupāda: …their achievement, no more death? As soon as you ask this question, matta kara heṭ. Baro baro bagara baro baro pet laṅkā diṅgaya matta kora heṭ. “Big, big monkey, big, big belly, Ceylon jumping, melancholy.” [laughs] What scientific advancement? Ask them. Do you think there will be no more death? Matte kora heṭ: “Yes, we are trying. Yes.” Answer them, “What is your achievement?” All achievement will be, remain in your back, and you’ll have to die. So what you have done, insurance, that you’ll enjoy this? You’ll be kicked out of the scene at any moment. What you have done for this? What is the answer? Mattaḥ kora heṭ “Yes, we are trying.” [laughter] Nonsense, you are trying. And we have to see this nonsense. We are not so fool. And if they say, “What you are doing?” “Yes, we are doing that. How to conquer over death.” Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti, mām eti. That is we are trying. That is real scientific. Eh? What is method? Very simple: man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru mām evaiśyasi asaṁśayaḥ: “Without any doubt, he comes to Me.” This is science. Why shall I waste time? [break]
SB 7.6.3
We are, every one of us, we are fully under the control of material nature. We have put ourselves, in different bodies, we are fully under the control of material nature. There is no question of independence. In the śāstra it is described, just like a horse or a bull is bound up in the nose, and the driver, as he push…, pull on the rope, it has to go according to that. There is no independence. So our so-called declaration of independence, “There is no God. There is no control. Whatever we like we can do,” this means ignorance. And in ignorance we commit so many mistakes, and that is sinful activity.
Room Conversation
Prabhupāda: Two servants always cleansing. As soon as somebody eats, the servant cleanses the place, take the plates and washes, return to kitchen. You have seen cut rows, wood. Devotees have seen. You can purchase. Engage one wood cutter. Then that will be… Everything can be arranged. Simply good management. Sleeping management will not help. And everyone… Such a big hall. Everyone should eat.
Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What, Śrīla Prabhupāda?
Prabhupāda: Such a big dining hall. The other day they were showing, “Here is the sign. Here is the sign.” So let them be utilized. Simply showing it?
Morning Talk
Prabhupāda: You say. We don’t say. Because you cannot do, you say. We are cultivating Kṛṣṇa consciousness for this purpose. We are not wasting time. And we are wasting time doing so? We are fools? That is the first instruction, that soul is immortal and unchanging. This very instruction they cannot understand. That is first instruction. Dehino ‘smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā. This simple… A child changes body. That is beginning. There is no… Same child. For a while it may be. Now he’s grown up, young man. It is not change of body? Why these rascals cannot understand? What is that [indistinct]? Therefore I have said, “You have no brain.” It is a fact. My son, he’s now young man. He took birth as a small child. Where is that body? Body has changed. Common thing. But these rascals, so fool, they cannot understand. I have become old man, but if some elderly persons, my guardians, were alive, he knew it, “He has become old man, but he was born a small child.” That we have given in pictures, change of body. Change of body is going on. Why these rascals cannot understand? What is their intelligence? Therefore the real problem is the change of body should be stopped. And that is real scientific advancement. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā: stop change of the body. We are trying to follow this culture. They say, “It is impossible.” So what is their knowledge of? Why the scientists cannot at least stop change of body? Young man… When I was young man, sir, stout and strong, then people came here. Now, on account of change of body, I am now invalid. Why the scientists cannot stop this? This is change of body. Simply bluff. They are big man amongst the rascals. They have not contributed anything. They say, “Change of body cannot be done”? What do they say? A young man is becoming old man. This is not change of body? Either stop this… And accept, soul is eternal; body is changing. What you can do? You cannot stop the change. Young man became old man. Or accept it is change of body.
