cukṣubhur nady-udanvantaḥ
sadvīpādriś cacāla bhūḥ
nipetuḥ sagrahās tārā
jajvaluś ca diśo daśa
Synonyms
cukṣubhuḥ—became agitated; nadī-udanvantaḥ—the rivers and oceans; sa-dvipa—with the islands; adriḥ—and mountains; cacāla—trembled; bhūḥ—the surface of the globe; nipetuḥ—fell; sa-grahah—with the planets; tarah—the stars; jajvaluḥ—blazed; ca—also; diśaḥ dasa—the ten directions. ¶
Translation
Because of the power of his severe austerities, all the rivers and oceans were agitated, the surface of the globe, with its mountains and islands, began trembling, and the stars and planets fell. All directions were ablaze. ¶
